Who we are

ABIE was established in 2022 by the Government of Alberta’s Ministry of Advanced Education and SAIT, and operates as a trusted liaison between Alberta’s publicly funded post-secondary institutions and international education networks. We are uniquely positioned to promote Alberta’s robust post-secondary education sector, forge partnerships, and help to facilitate student and faculty exchange, mobility, and transnational education programs.

What we do

Our work is grounded in four strategic priorities:

  • Awareness – Strengthening Alberta’s profile in global education circles of influence through outreach, events, and communication.
  • Attraction – Supporting Alberta’s 26 publicly funded post-secondary institutions to build meaningful connections and attract talent from diverse and priority international markets
  • Partnership – Facilitating relationships between Alberta’s institutions and global counterparts.
  • Consultation – Serving as a strategic resource to governments and member institutions.

Our why

We represent Alberta post-secondary institutions

We do this to strengthen Alberta’s economy, culture, and innovation by attracting and nurturing global talent. Expanding international education and exchange creates opportunities for growth, collaboration, and a more connected world that benefits students, institutions, and communities alike.

Our how

We know that international education is a key driver of economic and social prosperity in Alberta. By fostering global connections and attracting top talent, ABIE helps ensure Alberta remains competitive, inclusive, and forward-looking.

Why Alberta
